SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Yale women's basketball team remained within striking distance of Bryant until midway through the third quarter Friday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center. Yale trailed by just four, 33-29, after a layup by senior forward
Grace Thybulle at 7:41 of the third. But Bryant went on a 12-4 run to take a 12 point lead, and that proved to be enough of a cushion. Yale got no closer than nine the rest of the way, with Bryant eventually finishing off a 67-52 win.
Senior guard
Avery Lee kept Yale (1-7, 0-0 Ivy League) close in the first quarter, hitting both of her three-point attempts. Bryant held a 16-12 lead at the first break. The second quarter was evenly played – 13-13 – and Bryant went into halftime up 29-25.
After building its lead to 12 in the third, Bryant (7-1, 0-0 America East) got it to 16 in the fourth before finishing with a 15 point advantage.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
- Senior guard/forward Mackenzie Egger led Yale with 21 points and seven rebounds. Senior guard Avery Lee added eight points, while senior forward Grace Thybulle had six rebounds.
- Junior guard Kiley Capstraw and Egger each had a pair of assists to lead the Bulldogs in that category.
KEY STAT
- Marist outscored Yale 23-15 in the third quarter, hitting 10 of 14 shots (.714). That was the only quarter in which either team had more than a four-point advantage.
NOTES
- Yale held Bryant to a 1-for-12 performance (.083) from three-point territory, Bryant's lowest three-point shooting percentage of the season (by more than 100 percentage points).
- Yale was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
- Yale had its second-lowest foul total of the season (16).
