Game Saturday at No. 13 Princeton Will Help Determine Bulldogs’ Postseason Fate

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale field hockey team (10-5, 3-3 Ivy League) heads to No. 13 Princeton Saturday (12:00 p.m., ESPN+, International Stream, Live Stats) for the regular season finale – a game with Ivy League Tournament implications. With a win, the Bulldogs would clinch a spot in the tournament. With a loss, based on other Ivy results this weekend, Yale could wind up on the outside looking in as the tournament gets underway Nov. 8.
 
LAST WEEK
Yale split a pair of games at Johnson Field last weekend, falling to Columbia 3-2 on Friday and bouncing back with a 3-0 win vs. No. 19 Temple Sunday.

IVY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT
The Ivy League Tournament takes place at the site of the No. 1 seed, Princeton, and includes the top four teams in the regular season standings. Semifinals take place Friday Nov. 8 and the tournament championship game is Sunday Nov. 10. The winner earns the league's automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
 
Semifinal No. 1 will be No. 1 Princeton vs. the No. 4 seed at 11:30 a.m. and semifinal No. 2 will be No. 2 Harvard vs. the No. 3 seed. There will be a minimum of 45 minutes in between games.  
 
CLINCHING SCENARIOS

The Bulldogs would be the No. 3 seed in these scenarios:
  • Yale beats Princeton, Cornell beats Harvard, Brown beats Penn
  • Yale beats Princeton, Cornell beats Harvard, Penn beats Brown
  • Yale beats Princeton, Harvard beats Cornell, Penn beats Brown
 
They would be the No. 4 seed in this scenario:
  • Yale beats Princeton, Harvard beats Cornell, Brown beats Penn
 
Even with a loss, the Bulldogs could still make the tournament. Here are the possibilities:

SCOUTING No. 13 PRINCETON
Princeton (11-4, 6-0 Ivy League) has already clinched at least a share of its 28th Ivy League title and will host the Ivy League Tournament. A win on Saturday would give the Tigers their 18th 7-0 Ivy season.
