Bulldogs Split High-Scoring Twin Bill With Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – Two high scoring games were in the cards for the Yale softball team as the squad split a pair of tilts with Cornell. While the Big Red moved to 9-11 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Game 1: Yale 16, Cornell 12
  • T2 | Yale had a big second inning push that saw them go up 4-0. Sophie Woodridge took a first pitch swing, sailing the ball over the left field fence into the woods. With two outs, Sam Goodcase and Alex Perren snagged back-to-back doubles, while the former scored on Perren's hit. A single from Carolyn Skotz  then scored Perren. Rounding out the scoring, a misplay from the Cornell defense gave Yale their fourth run of the inning.
  • B2 | Cornell cut Yale's lead in half scoring on a hit and a fielder's choice.
  • T3 | The Bulldogs doubled up on their lead in the third. Maddie Latta and Mady Smith were the first baserunners, reaching on a pair of singles. It was Goodcase again, who reached on an error, scoring Latta from second. With two outs, Skotz knocked in Smith with a single before Libby Peoples blasted a RBI triple to bring Skotz home.
  • T4 | Yale was at it again in the fourth inning. Latta made it an eight-run lead with a two-run home run to left field. Another single later, and then Goodcase matched Latta with a two-run home run to left field herself. Peoples was doing People things, picking up her fourth extra base hit of the game to seal the inning with an 11-run lead.
  • B4 | The Big Red picked up a run in the bottom half of the inning.
  • T5 | Yale's Alex Perren singled with two outs in the fifth, eventually having two runs score on the play.
  • B5 | Cornell exploded in the bottom half of the inning with six runs on six hits.
  • T6 | Peoples and SJ Mull helped the Bulldogs respond. After Peoples earned a lead-off walk, and stole second, Mull ripped a two-out triple to score her.
  • B6 | Cornell picked up another run in a three-hit inning, putting them within six of Yale.
  • B7 | After a quiet top half from the Bulldogs, the Big Red recorded two runs, coming within four, but Yale's defense shut them down in 1-2-3 fashion following the 12th scored run.
