Providence, R.I. – The Yale bats erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning of game two to complete doubleheader and series sweep at Brown on Sunday afternoon.
Yale won game one 8-7, and took the nightcap 15-8. With the wins, the Bulldogs improved to 4-2 in Ivy League play and 9-12 overall.
Yale jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game two thanks to run-scoring hits from
Jake Williams and
AJ Gaich, along with sac flies from
Davis Hanson and
Tommy Martin.
Jeff Pierantoni added a RBI double in the second and the lead stood the rest of the game.
Alec Atkinson hit one of two Yale homers on the day to increase Yale's lead to 6-4 in the sixth of game two.
Jimmy Chatfield homered in game one.
One inning later, Yale broke the game open with seven runs.
Martin and Williams provided two-run hits. Martin singled home
Ben Metzner and Hanson, while Williams doubled home Chatfield.
The offensive outbreak was more than enough for the Yale bullpen.
Josh Richardson came on to throw 2 and 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, while
Daniel Cohen closed out the final 5 and 2/3 to earn the victory.
In game one,
AJ Gaich drew a lead off walk in the 10
th and eventually scored on a bases-loaded walk from Chatfield, who finished the game with three RBI.
Yale fell behind 4-0 after one and came back to score five in the second. Gaich doubled home a run and
Beck Milner provided a two-run single in the winning, while Atkinson and Chatfield had sac flies.
Hanson added another run for Yale in the third on a RBI single. Chatfield homered to right center in the fourth to give the Bulldogs a 7-4 lead.
Reid Easterly settled down after allowing four runs in the first and pitched into the eighth. Easterly retired 14 in a row at one point and drew a no-decision.
Mark Capell came on in the eighth and pitched the final 2 and 2/3 to earn the victory.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday for a game at Fairfield.
