Women's Hockey Hosts Northeastern in NCAA Regional Final

It's big-time hockey in New Haven this weekend as Yale welcomes fellow East Coast squad Northeastern. The No. 4 seeded Bulldogs will go head-to-head with the No. 5 seeded Huskies in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Ingalls Rink. The winner of the tilt will punch their ticket to the 2023 Frozen Four in Duluth, Minnesota.
 
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and free for international viewing on Stretch Internet.
 
Scouting the Bulldogs
  • Yale enters Saturday with 28-3-1 overall record.
  • Elle Hartje is cruising with an 18-game point streak that has seen the forward amass 36 points in that span. The junior has 51 total points this season, tying a career-high she set in her sophomore season.
  • Jordan Ray is second on the team in points behind Hartje with 41. The first year has 17 goals and 24 assists.
  • Charlotte Welch is riding a streak of her own with points in her last six games. She is third on the team with 40 points (12 goals, 28 assists).
  • Pia Dukaric has started all 32 games for Yale this season. Dukaric has a .936 save percentage, 1.36 goals against average and eight shutouts.

Yale in the NCAA Tournament
  • This is just the second time in program history that the Bulldogs have qualified for the NCAA Tournament, and the first time they are hosting a regional game.
  • Last season, Yale defeated Colgate on the road in the Regional Final to advance to the 2022 Frozen Four.
  • Yale eventually fell to powerhouse Ohio State in the NCAA semifinals, 2-1.

Yale and Northeastern
  • These two sides last met on Oct. 22, 2011, where the Huskies took a 7-0 victory. 
  • The all-time series is locked at three wins each.
  • Yale took the first three meetings in 2005-06, 2007-08, 2008-09, while Northeastern took the victories in the 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12 seasons. 
  • All six games were shutouts. 
 
Scouting the Huskies
  • Northeastern comes into Saturday's regional with a 33-2-1 overall record.
  • Their two losses this season were against Maine, 1-0, on Oct. 22, and Providence (3-0) on Nov. 15. The lone tie was also against the Friars in a 2-2 overtime battle on Oct. 28.
  • The Huskies are coming off their sixth-straight Hockey East title, which earned them an auto bid into the NCAA Tournament.
  • Alina Mueller is a top-three finalist for the 2023 Patty Kaz Award given to the top player in NCAA D1 women's hockey. She was also Hockey East's Player of the Year for the third time in her career.
  • Mueller leads the team with 58 points on 26 goals and 32 assists. Additionally, she has a team-high nine game-winning goals.
  • Maureen Murphy and Chloé Aurard are also two major contributors for the Huskies. Murphy has 53 points in 31 games, while Aurard has 52 points.
  • Together the trio are a combined plus-126 on the ice.
  • Gwyneth Philips has led the Huskies in goal this season. The senior is a top-three finalist for the 2023 National Goalie of the Year award.
  • Philips has a .960 save percentage, .81 goals against average and has 10 shutouts on the year. She has appeared in nearly every single minute for Northeastern.
