HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Yale softball team closed out its season opening weekend with a shutout victory over the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, 5-0. The Bulldogs' record improved to 2-3, while the Golden Lions fell to 2-9 overall.
 

How It Happened

• T1 | The Bulldogs wasted no time in getting themselves on the board in their Mississippi finale. After Carolyn Skotz reached on an error, Libby Peoples hit a double down the left field line, scoring Skotz from first. With two outs, Maddie Latta took a turn at the plate, singling through the left side and scoring Peoples in the process, 2-0.
• T4 | Yale extended its lead in the top of the fourth. Sam Goodcase earned a lead-off walk for the first baserunner of the inning. Alex Perren came on to pinch run for Goodcase, and took an opportunity to steal second. With Perren on second, Willa Ferrer stepped to the plate and knocked a home run to left field. Katie Donahey walked in her at bat, finding her way to third on a stolen base and wild pitch situation. Yale capped the scoring with Donahey scoring on a sacrifice fly, 5-0.
• Arkansas only mustered one hit for the remainder of the game as Nicole Conway pitched a solid four innings in the circle, allowing just one hit, and striking out five batters. Both Emma Taylor and Hannah Turner came on in relief and helped keep Arkansas off the board.
