HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Yale softball team fell in its season opening contests at the Hub City Classic. The Bulldogs took a 4-1 loss to Nicholls State before falling to the University of Southern Mississippi, 8-0.

Game 1: Nicholls 4, Yale 1

• After five scoreless innings, Nicholls struck first with three runs one two hits in the top of the sixth inning.
• The Bulldogs got one back in the bottom half of the frame. Carolyn Skotz kicked it off for Yale, doubling to right center in the lead-off spot. With one out, and runners on first and second, Willa Ferrer was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Maddie Latta. Latta reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Skotz from third and getting Yale on the board.
• Nicholls responded in the seventh with a home run to left center, 4-1.
• In her collegiate debut in the circle, Emma Taylor struck our six batters in six innings pitched.

Game 2: Southern Mississippi 8, Yale 0

• The host school came out hot in game two of the day. Southern Mississippi picked up three third-inning runs, four fifth inning runs, and another run in the sixth.
• Yale could not find its bats leading to the Golden Eagles capturing a dominant victory.

Yale will have a rematch with Southern Miss at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25 before facing Nicholls again at 3 p.m. Both games will be in Hattiesburg, MS.
