NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In the final home game of the 2023 portion of the schedule, Yale head coach
James Jones got a good look at his entire roster. Jones seemed pleased with what he saw, and he had every reason to be. Thirteen Bulldogs scored, including three who reached double figures, as Yale cruised to 95-36 victory over Colby-Sawyer at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
"It was good to see our guys go out and have fun playing the game of basketball and have smiles on their faces. It's a kids' game," said Jones, The Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach. "I feel really good about the quality of players we have on the team."
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Matt Knowling was 6-of-7 from the field and finished with a team-high 15 points.
Casey Simmons added 12 points off the bench.
Danny Wolf reached double figures for the eighth straight game, scoring 10 points, while grabbing nine rebounds.
Bez Mbeng had nine points, and
John Poulakidas, Samson Aletan and
Trevor Mullin all contributed eight.
STRONG DEFENSIVE EFFORT
Yale held the Chargers to 24.6 percent (14-of-57) shooting from the field, including 18 percent (5-of-28) in the first half.
KEY STATS
The Bulldogs outscored the Chargers 60-12 in the paint and had a 27-4 edge in second-chance points.
NOTES
• Yale limited the Chargers to 11 first-half points, one more than the school record of 10 set against Swarthmore in 1990.
• The Bulldogs outrebounded Colby-Sawyer 59-22.
• The Bulldogs won't play in the friendly confines of Lee Amphitheater again until Martin Luther King Day on Jan. 15.
