Bulldogs Fall to Quinnipiac in Nutmeg Classic Title Game

Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's ice hockey team fell to Quinnipiac 3-0 on Saturday in the finals of the Nutmeg Classic, held at Ingalls Rink.

With the victory, Quinnipiac earned its second consecutive Nutmeg Classic title, a four-team tournament of Connecticut women's ice hockey programs. The Bobcats improved to 14-3-0 with the win. The Bulldogs came up just short and fall to 6-6-0 this season.

Both the Bulldogs and Bobcats won their semifinal matchups on Friday taking down Sacred Heart and UConn, respectively. Prior to Saturday's contest, the Pioneers and Huskies squared off in the consolation game, in which UConn prevailed 3-1.

Scoring Summary
  • P1, 19:05 | Quinnipiac took the lead in the waning moments of the first period on a goal by Kate Reilly.
  • END OF 1 | The Bulldogs tallied eight shots on goal in the first period and earned two power plays, but could not break through on the scoreboard.
  • P2, 17:46 | The Bobcats earned another goal after defender Kendall Cooper weaved through traffic and scored on a backhanded effort.
  • END OF 2 | Yale once again had more opportunities than the visitors, outshooting the Bobcats 14-7, but goaltender Logan Anders held strong and kept the score at 2-0.
  • P3, 18:56 | Quinnipiac scored on an empty-netter to seal the 3-0 victory.
Game Notes
  • Quinnipiac improves to 2-0 against Yale this season. The two teams will meet for a third time on Jan. 26.
  • Defender Gracie Gilkyson and forward Stephanie Stainton were named to the all-tournament team. Gilkyson tallied six points in the Bulldogs' win over Sacred Heart on Friday. Stainton registered two goals and three assists against the Pioneers.
  • The Bulldogs outshot the Bobcats 36-28 and earned more penalties throughout the game.
  • Yale goaltender Pia Dukaric made 25 saves, while Angers stopped 36 shots.
