NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs have a chance to make up ground in the Ivy League standings when they host Penn this weekend for a three-game series. Â Game one is Friday at 1 p.m. at George H.W. Bush '48 Field.
The Bulldogs enter the weekend 7-8 in the Ivy League play, while Penn stands in second-place with a 12-2 mark. Yale returns home after playing five straight games on the road.Â
Yale is coming off an 8-4 loss at No. 15 UConn on Wednesday. Â In the game at UConn, Yale scored a run in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate. Â
Jake Gehri finished 3-for-5 with an RBI, while
Teddy Hague, Caron Swank and
Alec Atkinson each had two hits. T
AJ Gaich extended his hit streak to seven games. Â Â
Jimmy Chatfield reached base for the 32nd straight game with a hit and a walk. Â Chatfield also continues to lead the team with a .339 batting average overall and a .365 clip in Ivy play.Â
Swank (.319), LaPlante (.302), Gehri (.302) and Metzner (.300) are all hitting over .300 in league play. Â
Mike Walsh continues to lead the league in strikeouts in conference games. He has 42 over 32.1 innings after pitching into the seventh at Columbia last weekend before taking the no-decision. As a team, the Bulldogs continue to lead the Ivy League in fielding against conference opponents.Â
Scouting Penn
Penn has won 10 straight Ivy League games and swept Brown last weekend. The Quakers' team ERA of 3.49 in conference play leads the Ivy League. Â Penn also ranks second in team batting average. Â Ben Miller is their top hitter in league play with a .407 batting average, 17 RBI and 15 runs scored. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
