NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Heading into Monday's game at Reese Stadium, only two teams had held a lead at halftime on No. 6 Stony Brook: then-No. 3 Syracuse in the season opener and then-No. 5 Northwestern on Mar. 10. The No. 24 Yale women's lacrosse team joined that group Monday, outscoring the Seawolves 6-5 through the first 30 minutes. But while those first two games eventually turned into losses for Stony Brook, this time the Seawolves were able to rally. They outscored the Bulldogs 6-1 in the third quarter and went on to win 14-10. First-year midfielder
Taylor Lane had a career-high six goals and seven points for Yale.
Yale (10-4, 6-0 Ivy League) had made history just two days earlier, beating Columbia 24-14 to move to 6-0 in Ivy League play for the first time ever. The Bulldogs came out firing on Monday afternoon, scoring on four of five shots in the first quarter and jumping out to a 4-1 lead. Lane scored two of those – working well with her namesake, first-year midfielder
Taylor Everson. Everson assisted on both of Lane's goals, and Lane then assisted on a goal by Everson. First-year attacker
Caroline Burt also scored, driving in from the right elbow and firing in her 11th goal of the year.
After Stony Brook (13-2, 5-0 America East) closed to within 4-3 in the second quarter, goals by first-year midfielder
Fallon Vaughn and Lane got Yale's lead to three again. But it would be more than 15 minutes before the Bulldogs got back on the scoreboard.
Stony Brook reeled off five straight goals from late in the second quarter to midway through the third quarter, taking an 8-6 lead. Lane broke up the string with a goal at 7:09 of the third, but SBU answered with three more to take an 11-7 lead into the fourth.
Lane scored early in the fourth but Stony Brook responded just over a minute later to get its lead back to four. She then scored her sixth goal of the game, and 26th of the season, with 6:26 to play – but two more Stony Brook goals followed. Senior attacker
Olivia Markert added one more highlight for Yale, scoring her 40th goal of the season to make the final 14-10.
This was the most goals Stony Brook has allowed in a game since that Mar. 20 loss to Northwestern. It was also tied for the fourth-fewest goals the Seawolves have scored all season, a tribute to a Yale defense led by senior defender
Kenya Boston. She had a game-high eight ground balls (the most in a game for any Yale player this season) along with four caused turnovers (tied for the most in a game for any Yale player this season). Junior defender
Ali Anderson and first-year midfielder
Sophie Straka each had a pair of caused turnovers.
Lane (6-1-7), Everson (1-2-3) and junior attacker
Olivia Penoyer (0-2-2) all had multiple-point games. Markert added seven draw controls.
The Bulldogs now turn their attention to No. 12 Princeton. Yale visits the Tigers this coming Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. game with the Ivy League title and the No. 1 seed in the Ivy League Tournament at stake.
