NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs travel to Cornell this weekend and look to extend their win streak.
Yale enters the weekend fresh off a 5-1 victory over Sacred Heart to push its win streak to five overall. Â The Bulldogs have won 10 of 12 and swept Princeton last week to begin the Ivy season 3-0.Â
Jake Gehri and
Colton Shaw both homered in the win on Wednesday, and
Jimmy Chatfield earned the victory on the mound and reached base for the 18th straight game to start the season. Â Yale improved to 4-0 at home this season and 12-6 overall.Â
Here are Bulldog notes entering the weekend:
- Yale swept the Ivy League weekly awards on Monday. Â Jake Gehri (Player of the Week), Jimmy Chatfield (Rookie of the Week) and Mike Walsh (Pitcher of the Week) took home the honors. Â
- Gehri homered four times last Sunday to set an Ivy League record for most home runs in a conference game. Â He followed up with another homer on Wednesday against Sacred Heart and tied Chatfield with the team lead (5). Â
- Walsh struck out 10 and improved to 3-0 with the victory at Princeton last Saturday.Â
- Chatfield homered in both games of the doubleheader at Princeton and also earned the win on the mound last week versus Quinnipiac. Â He leads the team in batting average (.344), walks (16), slugging percentage (.609), RBIs (21) and tied in hits (22) with Mason LaPlante. Â Â
- Colton Shaw homered on Wednesday to extend his team-leading hit streak to 10 games.
- Four different Bulldogs have a current reached base streak of at least 10 games: Â Jimmy Chatfield (18), Ben Metzner (13), Carson Swank (11), and Colton Shaw (10).Â
- Mason LaPlante leads the team in runs scored (22), hits (22) and stolen bases (6).Â
- Mike Walsh enters the weekend 3-0 and leads the team with 28.1 innings pitched. Â He also has a .210 opposing batting average.Â
- Up next, the Bulldogs travel to Fairfield on Wednesday, April 6.
Scouting Cornell
The Big Red dropped all three games against Harvard last weekend and entered the weekend at 3-11 overall. Â Joe Hollerbach leads the team with a .345 batting average, five doubles, three home runs, and nine runs batted in. Matt Barnhorst and Wils Guy both enter the weekend with five-game hit streaks, while Ryan Porter has reached base in eight straight games. Â Ryan Ross leads the team with a .760 slugging percentage and an 1.198 OPS.Â
