The Bulldogs will get a chance to keep their momentum going a little sooner than expected this week, and host their first game of the season in the process.
After a one-hit shutout of Washington and a four-game series split against the Pac-12 foe, Yale's two games previously scheduled for Saturday have moved up earlier. Â Yale (3-4) will host Long Island University on Thursday and play at Fordham on Friday. Â
The key to success last weekend was consistent pitching and defense. Â Four Bulldog pitchers combined on the 1-0 victory on Sunday and benefited from two timely double plays.
Here are some notes ahead of this week's games:
- Yale has defeated Auburn (SEC) and Washington (Pac-12) to open the season.
- The Bulldogs pitching staff held Auburn and Washington to a combined .218 batting average over seven total games.Â
- Alec Atkinson, Mark Capell, and Mick Kelley earned spots all Ivy League weekly honor roll.
- Atkinson went 6 for 15 with three doubles in four games at Washington last weekend.
- Capell earned a victory and five-out save at Washington.
- Kelley tossed 5.2 innings, earned a win, and did not allow a hit in two appearances at Washington.Â
- The Bulldogs have stolen 11 bases on 13 attempts this season.
Scouting Long Island University
The Sharks enter play at 6-6 and have wins over Penn State and Washington State. Â LIU is hitting .235 as a team, led by Carlton Harper (.333) and Michael Edelmen (.326). Â The Sharks are coming off a 10-6 win over Stony Brook.
Scouting FordhamÂ
The Rams stand at 2-9 entering the week after an 0-3 weekend at Florida Atlantic. Jack Harnisch leads the team with a .324 batting average. The team is hitting .261. Fordham and LIU will play at 1 p.m. on Friday prior to Yale's game.
