PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The No. 4 Bulldogs fell to No. 1 Penn 6-3 in the semifinals of the Potter Cup Tournament this afternoon. The Elis put forth a valiant effort, with five of the nine contests going to five games and four lasting longer than an hour.
No. 3 Max Forster,
No. 4 Siow Yee Xian, and
No. 9 Nikhil Ismail notched the three victories for the Elis. Ismail, who gave Yale its first win of the afternoon, prevailed against his Penn counterpart in a five-game, 62-minute match. Siow, whose 83-minute match was the longest of the afternoon, avenged his loss to Penn's Nicholas Spizzirri in January with a five-game victory.
Forster, who was named to the All-Ivy team as a first-year, secured the last win for the Elis in heroic fashion. After exchanging wins and losses with his opponent, two of which ended with a score of 13-11, Forster pulled away in the final game of the match to win 3-2.
Yale will play No. 6 Columbia, who lost to No. 2 Harvard this afternoon, for third place at 2:30 pm tomorrow.
