PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- For the fourth time this season, the Bulldogs were pushed to a fifth set. And like every other five-set match this season, they found a way to win on Friday night at Penn.
Yale made big play after big play in the deciding set, outlasted the Quakers at the Palestra, and notched its 17th straight victory. With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 19-1 overall and 11-0 in Ivy League play.
The scores of the match were 25-20, 20-25, 25-16, 23-25 and 15-11. The victory sets up a showdown at Princeton tomorrow at 5 p.m. for first place in the conference standings.
Audrey Leak had team-highs in kills (15) and blocks (7).
Gigi Barr had 13 kills, while
Mila Yarich had 11 and
Fatima Samb had 10 with a .526 hitting percentage.
Yarich and
Carly Diehl both had double-doubles. Diehl had 45 assists and 13 digs, while Yarich 22 digs to go along with her 11 kills.
Maile Somera led all Bulldogs with 24 digs.
The Bulldogs rattled off six straight points in the final set to take a 9-8 lead. The run included to kills from Yarich, and an ace from
Cara Shultz.
Penn took a brief 10-9 before Barr responded with a kill to tie the set again. From there, the Bulldogs closed out the match and scored four 5 of the final six points.
