Bargman Nets Pair in No. 10 Yale’s 4-1 Win

Bulldogs have won six of their last seven games

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale Women's Ice Hockey Team moved into the No. 5 position in the Pairwise Rankings and third place in ECAC Hockey today after completing a weekend sweep at Ingalls Rink.

The Bulldogs, ranked No. 10 in the polls last week, got two goals from rookie Anna Bargman and a two-point game from junior Rebecca Vanstone to overcome an early deficit on the way to a 4-1 win over Cornell.

"This was a terrific weekend of hockey for our team," said Mark Bolding, Yale's Susan Cavanagh Head Coach. "To get all the available league points was a huge success. We scored a lot of different ways and also defended well. I am excited to keep improving as the road to the playoffs gets closer."

Vanstone took a pretty lead pass from blueliner Vita Poniatovskaia and skated in alone on the visitor's goal before flicking a backhander into the net to tie the score early in the second. Claire Dalton followed up Elle Hartje's shot eight minutes later to give the home team a 2-1 lead and the eventual game-winner.

The third period began with a bang when Bargman was pulled down from behind on a breakaway resulting in a penalty shot. The Boxford, Mass., native went bar-down with her shot to put the game out of reach before adding an empty-netter late in the frame.

Yale, which hosts RPI on Tuesday night at 7, outshot the Big Red 32-16 to make a winner of Gianna Meloni in net while registering its sixth win in seven games and 14th overall. The Elis' current Pairwise Ranking, which can be crucial for determining the 11-team NCAA Tournament field, is the best in program history.
