Bulldogs Host Columbia, Cornell This Weekend

Yale Enters Weekend 7-3 Overall

The Bulldogs continue their home stand this weekend.

The Bulldogs stand at 7-3 overall and continue their home stand this weekend with matches against Columbia and Cornell. Yale hosts the Lions on Friday and the Big Red on Saturday.  

Last weekend, the Bulldogs dropped a five-setter to Brown in the conference season-opener for both schools.  The Bears won the final set 15-13 and defeated Yale for the first time in nine matches.  Bonnie Bostic had 19 kills and Fatima Samb added 15 while hitting .583 to pace the Bulldogs. 

More notes on the match-ups:

  • Last Friday's match against Brown marked Yale's first five-set match of the season.  
  • Bonnie Bostic leads the Bulldogs with a 3.00 kills per set average. 
  • Five Bulldogs are averaging at least two kills per set -- Bostic, Gigi Barr (2.48), Tiffany Pedersen-Henry (2.26) Mila Yarich (2.20) and Kathryn Attar (2.00).
  • Fatima Samb's .583 hitting percentage against Brown ranked second best among all Ivy Leaguers last weekend.
  • Maile Somera had 27 digs versus Brown last Friday and her digs per set (5.40) was third best in the conference last week. 
  • Yale leads the Ivy League in service aces per set (1.83) and ranks 33rd in the nation.
  • The Bulldogs rank first in the conference in opponent hitting percentage (.164)
  • Audrey Leak had a team-high five blocks against Brown. 

Scouting Columbia

The Lions (4-6, 1-0 Ivy) opened conference play with a 3-1 win over Cornell.  Emily Teehan had a team-high 20 kills and Logan Harlock added a career-high 15 kills in the victory.  Cadence Gronski leads the conference with 385 assists overall for the Lions.  Columbia was picked to finish seventh in the pre-season conference poll.

Scouting Cornell

The Big Red entered the weekend 4-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Madison Baptiste posted a career-high and team-best 20 digs to go along with a team-high 12 kills in the loss to Columbia last weekend.  In all matches played, Cornell ranks second in the Ivy League with 16.41 digs per set.  Cornell was chosen to finish third in the Ivy League pre-season poll.
