NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale University women's swimming and diving team won't travel far to open the 2021-22 season. The Bulldogs make the short trip to Storrs, Conn., to face UConn on Friday. The meet begins at 5 p.m. at Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.
Yale last competed in 2019-20, and it was another highly successful season. The Bulldogs posted an 8-1 dual meet record and placed a strong third at the Ivy League Championship.
There are a number of experienced returners on the roster, including captain
Ashley Loomis, a consistent Ivy League Championship scorer in the distance freestyle events. In the 1,650 free, she has a pair of top-five finishes and was fifth in the 1,000 free and sixth in the 500 free at the 2020 league championship meet.
Also back is
Iszac Henig, who has top-three finishes in the Ivy Championship in both the 100 and 200 freestyles.
Jessica Whang placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke at the 2020 Ivy's, and senior
Raime Jones is a multiple-time Ivy scorer, including a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 2019.
Yale won't have to wait long to get its first Ivy League test of the season. The Bulldogs host Columbia next Friday (Nov. 12) at Kiphuth Pool.
Yale also is set to host the annual HYP meet this season on Jan. 28-29, 2022.
UConn is already 3-1 on the season. The Huskies have victories over Northeastern, Central Connecticut and Georgetown.
