HAMDEN, Conn. -- The Yale field hockey team rallied back from deficits twice to tie the game on Sunday afternoon at Quinnipiac, including a dramatic goal in the final seconds to send the contest to overtime. But Quinnipiac ultimately edged the Bulldogs 3-2, handing Yale its fourth one-goal loss of the season -- and third in overtime.
Â
Yale was coming off a hard-fought 3-1 loss at No. 17 Princeton. The Bulldogs fell behind early on a goal by Bobcat forward Emilia Massarelli at 4:24. Quinnipiac goalie Mack Vorel made four saves in the first half to keep her team's lead 1-0 heading into halftime.
Â
The Bulldogs' penalty corner unit has been producing goals reliably this season, and on Sunday it just took a little more time for that unit to get going. On Yale's fifth corner of the day, sophomore forward
Lena Ansari scored at 39:08 to tie the game 1-1. That was Ansari's fifth goal of the year, as she has already exceeded her goal total from the previous season.

Quinnipiac went back ahead on another goal by Massarelli -- who at that point had scored all six of Quinnipiac's goals for the season -- at 55:23. But the Yale penalty corner unit delivered again when it mattered most: after the Bulldogs drew a corner with 10 seconds to play. Sophomore midfielder
Maddy Wong's tally at 59:57 sent the game to overtime, tied 2-2.Â

Yale sophomore goalie
Luanna Summer made a pair of saves early in overtime, getting her total for the game to three. But forward Brooke Whipkey's goal at 65:33 gave the Bobcats the emotional win.

Yale returns to Ivy League play next Saturday, hosting No. 12 Harvard at 1:00 p.m.
