NEW HAVEN, Conn. – First-year
Pia Dukaric stopped 27 of 29 shots, but the Yale Women's Hockey Team could not convert its chances and fell 2-0 to defending conference champion Princeton at Ingalls Rink.
The Bulldogs, who are 2-1, went scoreless on four power-play chances in their conference opener.
Charlotte Welch had three shots on target, while
Claire Dalton had a pair as Yale had an overall 31-29 edge on the Tigers, who got two tallies from Maggie Connors, were playing their season opener.
Mark Bolding, Yale's Susan Cavanagh Head Coach, saw plenty of good things from the Bulldogs tonight. "We're disappointed, we expected to get some points out of tonight and put in a little better offensive output. You don't want to get shut out at home, but i liked the flurries we had. We had some good early chances, some good looks and that came from the balance in our lines. All of the lines created a few chances, so that gives us hope that we'll be fine tomorrow."
Dukaric, making her second straight start for the Elis, also impressed her coach. "I thought she was very solid, and she had a couple of timely saves where she was dynamite and played the puck well. It was a really good game for her even though it was a loss, it was a good loss," said Bolding.
Yale is back in action Saturday at 3 p.m. when No. 8 Quinnipiac comes to the Whale for an ECAC Hockey contest.
