GAME DAY CENTRAL
NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
Mark Bolding, Yale's Susan Cavanagh Head Coach, is excited about the prospects for the 2021-22 campaign which gets underway on Oct. 15 with a home exhibition game against CT Whale.
"We have a good number of experienced players at every position who know what it takes to win, and that's what you need to compete in this conference," said Bolding, who has players from seven different countries on his roster this winter. "We are integrating 13 newcomers, so having that returning leadership and on-ice experience will be crucial to our success."
The Elis have their top seven scorers, all but one regular blueliner and one of the starting goalies returning from a 2019-20 squad that registered a program-best 17 wins, qualified for the post-season and took a rival to a third and final game in an ECAC Hockey quarterfinal series.
Senior captain
Greta Skarzynski, who has played up front and on defense, heads a roster of 30 that includes 16 forwards, 10 blueliners and four goalies. She played defense the last season and amassed 14 points. One of her defensive mates, junior
Emma Seitz, earned second-team All-ECAC Hockey honors after netting six goals and 26 points.
Yale is led at forward by juniors
Claire Dalton, who had a dozen goals and a team-high 36 points,
Charlotte Welch (team-best 15 goals, 33 points) and
Rebecca Vanstone, who had 18 points despite missing 10 games.
The last time the Blue was in action, forwards
Elle Hartje (11-14-25) and
Grace Lee (10-11-21) were two of the best newcomers in the ECAC. If they continue to stand out, the Elis could have great scoring depth.
Gianna Meloni, a senior with plenty of experience, is the top returnee in goal. She stopped 55 Harvard shots in an ECAC Playoff game on the way to a top 10 Yale season save percentage (.914) and goals against (2.40).
The Bulldogs open the regular season at home on Oct. 22 against St. Anselm.
