CLEARWATER, Fla. – Yale ran into a hot pitcher on the final day of the Clearwater Spring Break Invitational. Providence's Daniela Alvarez tossed six innings, allowed only two hits and struck out as the Friars beat the Bulldogs 8-2.
The game was scoreless for two innings before Providence erupted for seven runs in the third.
Yale got one back in the sixth when
Carolyn Skotz singled home
Olivia Vinyard.
The Bulldogs' second run came in the seventh when
Gretchen Bunovsky drew a bases loaded walk.
Vinyard and
Willa Ferrer also had hits for Yale.
The Bulldogs open Ivy League play next weekend with a three-game series at Penn.
