Box Score BOSTON, Mass. - Justin Pearson had two goals and Corbin Kaczperski stopped 28 shots, including the save of the game in overtime, as the Yale Men's Hockey Team earned an ECAC point with a 4-4 tie against No. 18 Harvard at the Bright Landry Center.
Yale's senior goalie made a spectacular kick save with a little over a minute left in the extra session, which allowed his squad to have a few late cracks at winning the game. The Bulldogs had a 33-32 edge in shots on goal but could not find the net after building a 4-1 advantage in the second period.
The Blue got on the board first when Curtis Hall re-directed a Phil Kemp shot from the point early in the game. Hall, who had three points tonight, helped the visitors make it 2-0 with a perfect feed in the slot that Pearson one-timed through the Harvard goalie's legs.
After the Crimson found the net to cut the lead in half, Pearson pounced on a puck in the low slot to notch his 10th goal of the season. The Elis kept the pucks coming at the Harvard net, and the Smith brothers connected shorthanded to make it 4-1. Evan Smith, the team captain, moved the puck from left to right on an odd-man rush that finished with Mitchell Smith flicking his Bauer Vapor FlyLite from the high slot.
The most valuable player of the annual Yale-Harvard men's hockey game at Boston wins an award named after legendary Eli head coach Tim Taylor. Pearson shared the Tim Taylor Cup with Crimson skater Nick Abruzzese.
The home squad erased a 4-2 third-period deficit, which included pulling its goalie and scoring six seconds later to make it 4-4. The Bulldogs, who outshot Harvard 4-2 in the OT, look for a three-point weekend when they head to Hanover tomorrow for a 7 p.m. game with Dartmouth.
