The Yale men's fencing team traveled to Waltham, Mass. to compete in the Brandeis Invitational on Sunday and finished the day with an impressive 3-1 record.

Yale began the day with a close 14-13 victory over Boston College. As the teams traded touches and bouts, both the Bulldogs and the Eagles cheered on their teammates and fenced their hardest to see who would prevail in such a tightly-fought match. Foilist

Isaac Shelanski both went undefeated against the Eagles, each contributing three bouts to the Bulldogs' final score.

Building on winning momentum, Yale next faced off against their hosts at Brandeis, finishing with an impressive 22-5 victory. The foil squad, made up of

Allan Ding,
Daniel Li, and
Maxwell Yee, went undefeated against the Judges. The saber squad also performed admirably, winning seven of their nine bouts, with
Nicolas Del Vecchio going undefeated. The epee squad, too, posted a winning 6-3 record against the Judges, with
Safi Haider and Jayson Thomson winning all of their bouts.Â

After lunch, the Bulldogs suffered a disappointing 18-9 loss to St John's. The Red Storm always has been formidable opponents, but the saber squad held their own, winning six of their nine bouts, and both foilist

The Bulldogs ended the day on a high note with a 16-11 victory over MIT. The epee squad, in particular, performed strongly, winning seven of their nine bouts, with
Jonah Cho and
Isaac Shelanski both going undefeated. Foilists

The Bulldogs plan to build on their successful competition by continuing to train with focus and build on their successful season. While they do not have any more competitions before winter break, they will begin the New Year with the Penn State Invitational on January 12.Â
