Bulldogs Rally in 10th to Beat Cornell; Teams to Play Monday at 1 p.m.

Box Score

In the midst of a winning streak, the Bulldogs are finding unique ways to win.  On Sunday, Yale scored the go-ahead run in the tenth without recording a hit in an 8-7 victory over Cornell in snowy Ithaca, N.Y.

In a game that had two snow delays totaling 63 minutes, the Bulldogs used their speed and capitalized on a miscue to win their sixth straight Ivy League game and sixth consecutive game overall.

Today's second game was postponed until tomorrow with a scheduled start time of 1 p.m.

In the 10th, Harry Hegeman reached on a passed ball following a called strike three, then advanced to third when the next batter, Teddy Hague, dropped a sac bunt and wound up on second base after a throwing error.

In a dramatic play, Hegeman scored after Cal Christofori struck out swinging and raced for home when the catch threw to first to complete the play.

Simon Whiteman went 3 for 3 with three runs scored and Benny Wanger did a little bit of everything to lead the Bulldogs to a road victory.  Wanger's base-clearing, three-run double got the Bulldogs on the board in the third.

Cornell responded with five runs off of Kumar Nambiar in the bottom of the inning.

Hegeman tied the game in the fifth on a two-run single down the left field line to score Wanger and Whiteman.  Hegeman went 2 for 5 with three RBI and a run scored on the afternoon.

Cornell (5-13, 1-4 Ivy) regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a run.

Wanger and Hegeman gave back the lead to the Bulldogs in the seventh.  Wanger doubled home a run and Hegeman delivered another with a single.

The Big Red scored a run in the seventh, but were denied more when Wanger ranged to his right and fed relief pitcher Tyler Sapsford to strand runners at second and third.

Wanger came on to pitch in the eighth with one out and got out of a base-loaded jam on strike out of Cornell's No. 3 hitter Dale Wickham, who had four RBI on the day.  Wanger set down the Big Red in order the last two innings to earn the victory.
