Box Score WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- Eric Brodkowitz improved to 5-0 in Ivy League play and Griffin Dey remained hot at the plate in a 5-4 Yale victory over Dartmouth on Sunday at Yale Field.
With the win, the Bulldogs took the series from the Big Green, moved to 11-4 in conference play and picked up a game in the Ivy standings. Yale has won 13 of its last 15 games overall.
The Bulldogs hold a two-game lead in first place with six games in its conference schedule.
Some Ivy League teams have played 12 games, including Dartmouth, which fell to 6-5-1 in conference play. Due to postponed games and an added bye week in the league schedule teams have played an uneven number of games thus far.
"People look at the records of the teams in our league and say the league is down," Yale head coach John Stuper said. "I'm here to tell you it isn't. Because of the tough spring, many of us didn't get outside at all before playing games down south or out west. That makes it really tough. You get beat up early in the season. Anyone who doesn't think teams like Dartmouth, Harvard, Columbia and Princeton are good teams simply haven't seen them play"
Dey extended his hit streak to six games with three more and added two runs scored and two RBI. Alex Stiegler also had three hits, including a two-run double in the fifth to give Yale a 5-2 lead.
After allowing a run in each of the first two innings, Brodkowitz settled down, retired 10 in a row, pitched into the eighth. He pitched 7 and 1/3 innings, struck out four and did not walk a batter.
In the fifth, Yale broke through by getting the first two runners on base. Cal Christofori led off by getting hit by a pitch and Tim DeGraw followed with a walk.
Two batters later, with one out, Benny Wanger was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Dey and Stiegler delivered back-to-back doubles and the Bulldogs turned a 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 lead. Dey went 6 for 12 in the three-game series.
Harry Hegeman added two hits for the Bulldogs, which improved to 9-3 at Yale Field this season.
Dartmouth fought back. The Big Green got two runs back in the eighth.
Wanger came on in the eighth to stop the rally and tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up his fifth save of the season and fourth against Ivy League competition. He has not allowed a run in 10 innings of conference play.
"Great win today for us," Stuper added. "We always have tough series with Dartmouth. They're a lot like us. They never quit."
Up next, the Bulldogs are scheduled to host Fordham on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
