HANOVER, N.H. — The No. 4 Yale Bulldogs wrapped up Ivy League competition on a winning note this Sunday with a decisive 9-0 win against No. 8 Dartmouth.
With the win, Yale finished the regular season at 15-3, having only lost matches to three higher-ranked teams — No. 1 Harvard, No. 2 Trinity, and No. 3 Penn. The Bulldogs' 5-2 conference mark puts them in third place in the final Ivy League standings.
Host Dartmouth (4-7, 2-5 Ivy) had hoped to upend the visiting Bulldogs, but Yale's squad proved too much for the Big Green across the board, taking five of the nine matches in straight sets. Dartmouth's strongest effort to break the sweep came in the No. 8 position, but Yale sophomore Annie Ballaine hung on to win in five games (7-11,11-6,7-11,11-2,11-8).
The strong performance from Yale was an encouraging sign after a tough loss against Harvard on Friday night. The Bulldogs will now start to prepare for the upcoming national championships, in which they hope to improve on last year's fifth-place finish. The Howe Cup will begin on Friday, Feb. 21 at the Jadwin Squash Courts in Princeton, N.J.
