Midzik, Johnson Blast 10 Kills Each in Sweep of Brown

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- For the second time this season, the Bulldogs started strong against Brown.

Similar to Yale's match against the Bears earlier this season, the Bulldogs hit over .400 in the first set and cruised to a three-set win for their sixth straight win.

The scores of the match were 25-13, 25-12 and 25-17. 

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 7-1 in the conference and remained at the top of the Ivy League standings.  

Maya Midzik and Kelly Johnson both had 10 kills to pace the Bulldogs, who hit .438 in the first set and had 15 kills on 32 swings.  Yale hit .333 for the match.

"I thought we came out and did a nice job of setting the tone," Yale head coach Erin Appleman said. 

Midzik hit .529 for the match, while Jesse Ebner hit .583 with eight kills.  Kelsey Crawford had 36 assists for Yale.  

WIth the first set tied at 4-4, Yale scored seven of the next eight points.  Karlee Fuller, who had four kills, and capped the rally to give Yale an 11-5 lead.

Yale jumped out to a 16-5 lead in the second set - including nine straight points in one stretch.  The Bulldogs scored the final four points of the set with a kill from Ebner and two from Johnson.

The third set was tied at 12-12 until Mollie Rogers and Ebner combined on a block assists. Yale had nine total team blocks, while Brown had two.

The Rogers-Ebner block led to a 6-0 run for the Bulldogs.

Rogers led Yale with 11 digs, while Maddie Rudnick had 10 and Tori Shepherd and Crawford had eight each.

The Bulldogs retun to action next weekend with a match against Dartmouth on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday against Harvard at 5 p.m.  Harvard is second in the Ivy League standings with a 6-2 conference mark.
