Box Score Two Goals Each for Cunningham, Parsons
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Jenna Cunningham and Sarah
Parsons scored two goals each to lead Dartmouth to a 6-2 win over
Yale Saturday night at Ingalls Rink. Sophomore forward Aleca Hughes
and senior forward Caroline Murphy scored Yale's goals.
Like Harvard did to the Bulldogs the night before, the Big Green
scored early to take control of this game. Sophomore goalie Genny
Ladiges made two quick saves 30 seconds in, stopping a shot by
Kelly Foley and Jenna Hobeika's attempt to stuff in the rebound.
But two minutes later Cunningham started the scoring with an
unassisted goal, and she added another at the 9:38 mark. The
Bulldogs did not get their first shot on goal until just over nine
minutes remained in the period, as Murphy carried the puck in from
the corner and attempted a backhander that Mariel Lacina (23 saves)
stopped.
Yale (1-7-1, 1-7-0 ECAC Hockey) got within one on a nice play by
Hughes. She got the puck at center ice, passed it to herself off
the boards and went into the Dartmouth zone, then knocked in the
rebound of her own shot at 4:17 of the second.
Dartmouth (4-3-1, 4-3-1 ECAC Hockey) quickly quelled any Yale
momentum by taking advantage of a Yale penalty right after the
Hughes goal. Kelly Foley's power-play goal got the Big Green lead
back up to two goals, and Parsons added another power-play goal at
13:11 to make it 4-1.
Murphy drew Yale within 4-2 thanks to assists from freshman
defenseman Jamie Gray and sophomore forward Becky Mantell at 18:49.
But 5:35 into the third Amanda Trunzo redirected a pass from
Parsons, the former U.S. Olympian, past Ladiges to make it 5-2.
The Bulldogs pulled Ladiges for an extra attacker later in the
third, but Parsons quickly made them pay by putting in an
empty-netter for the 6-2 final. Ladiges finished with 31 saves.
Yale hosts the Nutmeg Classic Friday and Saturday at Ingalls
Rink. The Bulldogs play Sacred Heart at 4 p.m. Friday, followed by
UConn-Quinnipiac. The consolation game is Saturday at 4 p.m. and
the championship is Saturday at 7 p.m. Live video of both Yale
games will be available through Yale All-Access.
