Box Score Moncion Scores First Career Goal
TROY, N.Y. - Freshman forward Danielle Moncion
got her first career goal to tie Friday night's game at RPI 1-1
early in the first period, but the Engineers re-took the lead in
the second period and tacked on two late goals for a 4-1 victory
over the Bulldogs.
Audrey Stapleton's breakaway goal at 5:37 of the first started
the scoring for RPI (4-6-3, 2-2-1 ECAC Hockey), but Yale (0-5-1,
0-5-0 ECAC Hockey) answered less than a minute later. Senior
forward Caroline Murphy tried a wraparound from behind the net that
RPI goalie Sonja van der Bliek stopped. But when van der Bliek
could not control the rebound, Moncion was there to put the puck
over her shoulder.
RPI went back ahead on a goal by Sydney O'Keefe at 15:37 of the
second. Yale held a 9-4 shot advantage in that period but could not
get another one past van der Bliek. Whitney Naslund put the game
out of reach with a goal at 18:24 of the third. O'Keefe added an
empty-netter for the 4-1 final.
The Bulldogs outshot the Engineers 24-22. Junior goaltender
Jackee Snikeris made 18 saves, while van der Bliek had 23.
Yale plays at Union Saturday afternoon.
