Carol McPhillips Roberts Field House
70 Central Ave, New Haven, CT 06515
Carol McPhillips Roberts Field House, which opened in 2018, is the first building of its kind at Yale -- a comprehensive space that meets the needs of two women's teams. Situated between Johnson Field (home to the Yale field hockey team) and 5K Corral Field at DeWitt Family Stadium (home to the Yale softball team), the 5,900-square-foot facility includes spacious locker rooms, a training room, a satellite coaches' office, a team meeting space and a second-story observation roof deck featuring a glass-walled event space. Architects designed the building to complement the landscape, with straight lines and right angles for the wing closest to Johnson Field, and a graceful curve that echoes the outfield’s sweep for the softball-facing wing.
A lead gift from Carol McPhillips Roberts '81, who played both field hockey and softball and won a pair of Ivy League championships, helped fund the project. In 2019 the New York Times wrote about the significance of her donation and others by female alums.
